Data subject access requests (DSARs) continue to be a significant source of complaints received by the Irish DPC (IDPC), representing 42% of the total complaints in 2022. In light of this perhaps, towards the end of 2022, the IDPC issued detailed guidance to data controllers in respect of handling DSARs which employers should carefully review and consider.
The IDPC guidance closely aligns with the European Data Protection Board guidelines on the right of access. Both the guidance and the guidelines reflect the extremely high standard to which employers will be held in their handling of employee DSARs. Read more from our expert Linda Hynes here.
